Our research

Concerns about rising rates of poaching and trafficking of wildlife are changing approaches to conservation, such that it is now often described as a security threat.

The BIOSEC project aimed to develop a better understanding of the implications of shifting towards more security oriented approaches. These include militarisation of anti-poaching, deployment of new surveillance technologies, redefining wildlife crime as serious organised crime, and engaging more fully with global intelligence and policing networks.
